NWI Completes Annual ISO 9001 Compliance Review

In accordance with its quality management system (QMS), The Nonwovens Institute (NWI) successfully completed its annual ISO 9001 compliance review. The independent third-party audit was performed by the Performance Review Institute (PRI) of Warrendale, Pennsylvania. PRI is a not-for-profit trade association, which administers industry-managed critical process accreditation programs focused on improving process and quality with collaboration among stakeholders in industries where safety and quality are shared goals.

NWI’s ISO 9001:2015 accreditation, applies to its Analytical and Physical Testing, Filtration Testing, Meltblown and Spunbond and Hydroentangling labs.

ISO 9001 is a globally recognized standard for quality management. It helps organizations of all sizes and sectors to improve their performance, meet customer expectations and demonstrate their commitment to quality. Its requirements define how to establish, implement, maintain and continually improve a QMS. ISO 9001 accreditation validates an organization’s processes and trained staff are organized to deliver flawless products or services time after time.

“The Nonwovens Institute has demonstrated its commitment to world-class quality management by implementing and becoming certified to the ISO 9001:2015 standard,” said Ed Maschmeier, vice president of PRI Certification. “PRI Certification is proud to partner with NWI in this accomplishment and looks forward to continued support of the institute’s objective of quality management excellence.”

“Here at NWI we are keenly focused on continuous quality improvement,” said Jamie Plummer, lab research specialist and quality management lead at NWI. “We have been certified in good manufacturing practices (GMP) since 2016, and we received ISO 9001 accreditation in January 2021. Each year we complete an independent third-party review of our ISO 9001 work practices, and every three years we complete the recertification process. Our next ISO 9001 recertification will be in 2026.”

NWI’s facilities include lab-scale and large pilot-scale production and testing equipment covering the leading nonwoven platforms. This equipment, along with our expert staff, is available to support experimental trials and testing for industry and government organizations.

Based at the Center for Technology and Innovation on the Centennial Campus of North Carolina State University, The Nonwovens Institute (NWI) is a consortium of stakeholders spanning the breadth of the nonwovens value chain. Operating on an “Open Innovation” platform and covering the full Technology Readiness Level (TRL) range, NWI engages industry, government and academia to enable next-generation nonwoven solutions to mission-critical challenges.
