Meltblown Technology Short Course

August 12, 2025 - August 14, 2025

The Meltblown Technology Short Course combines classroom learning with hands-on activities in NWI’s state-of-the-art fabrication and testing labs to provide attendees a fundamental understanding of the process of forming meltblown webs. The course focuses on the importance of controlling structure-property-process relationships to optimize meltblown materials for the requirements of the application. The course will cover model polymers, such as PP, as well as the use of alternative polymers (PET, PLA, PBS, etc.), providing attendees an “algorithm” for running an efficient meltblown process based on polymer properties.

Upon completing the course, attendees will have a comprehensive grasp on meltblown nonwoven production processes, including raw material selection, basic science knowledge, testing, and the characterization used to create end-use products. Attendees will also understand the important connection between thermal profiles and extrusion (i.e., min/max temperatures) to optimize the process.

If you attend this course, you will:

  • Learn how to exploit machine design and raw materials to optimize the efficiency of the process and improve the quality of end products.
  • Get expert insight into nonwoven markets and applications for meltblown technology, including how to leverage biopolymers for sustainable impacts.
  • Gain insight into the nonwoven fabrics industry and the significant role meltblown materials play in the world today.

Expert Instructors:

  • Angelo Corino, Spunbond and Meltblown Lab Manager, NWI
  • Benoit Maze, Ph.D., Director of Education and Administration, NWI
  • Amy Minton, Analytical and Physical Testing Lab Manager, NWI
  • Behnam Pourdeyhimi, Ph.D., Executive Director, NWI

Attendee Feedback:

  • “A huge thank you to the instructors and all of the wonderful staff. The course was incredibly helpful, and we learned so much that will aid us in our business going forward. The information on the fundamentals of extrusion and how process parameters affect output product and defect generation was excellent. I also loved being able to apply learnings in the lab.” — Staff Scientist, Medical Device Manufacturer
  • “The breadth (and depth) of the subject matter was what I liked most about the course.  The course provided a nice introduction to the process, while also providing enough detail to keep the experienced person engaged.” — Process Technology Leader, Manufacturer of Fibers and Nonwovens
  • “The course provides an even mix of new information with enough technical information to use with current knowledge.” — Production Supervisor, Packaging Manufacturer
  • “This program was excellently done. This is must-have training for new and experienced engineers operating in or serving the nonwovens industry. I will be recommending accordingly in my organization.” —  Nonwovens Process Technology Leader, Global Materials Manufacturer
