Yijian Lin Elected to Strategic Scientific Advisory Board

On March 18, 2022, Dr. Yijian Lin was elected to the Strategic Scientific Advisory Board (SSAB) of the Nonwovens Institute (NWI) at North Carolina State University.

 

Dr. Lin received his Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Engineering from Case Western Reserve University.

In 2010, Dr. Lin joined Dow where he is currently Senior Scientist in the Packaging & Specialty Plastics business and is located in Freeport, Texas, USA.  In this role, he leads the development of new polyethylene products for hygiene applications including backsheet, elastics, and nonwovens.   His research interest focuses on the fundamental understanding of how polymer structure- property relationship translates into final product performance. Dr. Lin’s responsibilities also include defining and implementing long-term technology plans and strategies; identifying, prioritizing, and driving the pipeline of new innovation; and IP management and defense.

 

During his tenure at Dow, Dr. Lin has developed multiple products from conception through commercialization. He has published 21 peer-reviewed journal articles and holds 14 granted US patents. He is also the recipient of the R&D 100 Award <https://www.rd100awards.com> in 2018 and the Edison Award <https://www.edisonawards.com> in 2019.

 

The Strategic Scientific Advisory Board manages the Nonwovens Institute’s project portfolio to reflect the long-term research interests of the Institute and its member companies.  The board strives to create a balanced research portfolio and to develop a depth of technical knowledge.  Key current efforts include:

  • Definition of technical vision as well as challenges and knowledge gaps for the Institute,
  • Portfolio management to ensure balance across the Institute’s five research thrust areas (Materials, Extrusion, Engineered Structures, Modeling, and Sustainability), and
  • Assuring that the resulting portfolio of program and results enables industry value creation.
